Professor Nicole Anderson

Nicole Anderson is the Director of The Institute for Humanities Research at Arizona State University, USA.

She was previously Head of the Department of Media, Media, Communications,  and Cultural Studies at Macquarie University, Sydney from 2014-March 2021, and is now Honorary Professor at Macquarie University. Nicole is the founder and chief editor of the Derrida Today journal (Edinburgh University Press), and the founding Director of the Derrida Today International Conferences. She is the author of Derrida: Ethics Under Erasure (Continuum 2012 (hardcover); Bloomsbury 2013 (paperback)). She is co-editor of Cultural Theory in Everyday Practice (Oxford University Press 2008), and sole author of a forthcoming book called: Culture (Routledge).  Her research interests include Visual Culture (including film and art theory), Continental Philosophy, Deconstruction and Derrida Studies, Ethics, Biopolitics, Biocultures, Animal Studies, and Posthumanism. She has published various book chapters, as well as journal articles including: Film Quarterly, Social Semiotics, The Journal of Nietzsche Studies, Journal of Southern Philosophy, Parallax, Oxford Literary Review, and Mosaic.

Professor Julian Knowles

Julian Knowles is a Professor of Media and Music and Discipline Chair of Media & Communications at Macquarie University, Australia.

An expert in practice-based research and new technologies, his work demonstrates a long-standing, high-level engagement with technologically-mediated music and sound practices and the relationships between audio-visual media. This has resulted in the creation of more than 50 innovative works that have been disseminated by high profile record labels, broadcasters, and art institutions internationally. Julian’s work has been presented at events and venues such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Experimental Intermedia NYC, What is Music?, Australian Perspecta, Liquid Architecture, the Melbourne International Film Festival, VIVID Sydney, and the Sydney Opera House.
